I can't believe I'm saying this, but one thing I miss about growing up in the 90s was that, not having internet, I really had no notion of fandom. If I liked something, even really loved something, I could just enjoy it and be happy I liked it, and that was enough. If I started talking to a friend who liked the same thing that was cool, and we could talk about it together, but if not, that was perfectly okay with me. I was happy and satisfied. #fandoms
There were fandoms where I lived in the 90s. They were just only sports fandoms.
The one thing I miss from the 90s is having a friend I can talk to. _

I do that too, and I have Social coding forum for that, which is more a note-taking and value-aggregation tool than a discussion forum. It has a bunch of commons-only areas too, to focus on particular subject matter..
Rep. Jim Clyburn wants a 13-justice Supreme Court. House Republicans tried to lock it at nine but the votes fell far short. The Constitution is silent on the number of justices, and Congress has changed it…seven times. Time for a baker’s dozen justices? My write-up in the link in the comments.

It is peculiar to see this specification being created beneath the Mastodon organization on Github. But it makes the point I make in my blog announcement and the article itself.
It's all app-centric. What happens with FASP''s in fediverse-we-have will be entirely up to individual app developers' whims.
The same concern that L. Rhodes expressed will be front and center to the Prosocial web that made the transition to service-orientation. But at least there it will become a primary concern that must be tackled on protocol level and the way in which solution development is done.
The interesting aspect of the paradigm shift is in how business domains become the focus, not application domains, and requirements that are elicited for solutions designs will be wholly different than for app features.

Given sufficient diligence, it would have been possible to build FASP functionality using an ActivityPub dialect instead of a raw JSON protocol. I don't know if that would have been an improvement on balance, but I have previously seen the criticism.
However, it would not have solved the need to prototype and iterate the architecture before it can become a standard, at the W3C or elsewhere. So I don't think I fully get the criticism.
Some startup guy is making waves for posting on LinkedIn that when he hires, he looks for people who survived big tech layoffs because that’s an indicator of how they were chosen over their peers.
Since writing nonsense online is free, this tells me:
- he’s never worked in big tech
- he has no idea what he’s doing
- don’t work with people like that
